Embracing Change
The Greek philosopher Heraclitus said that, “Change is the only constant in life.” If we presume this to be a truism of human nature and the world around us, why is it that so many people resist, fear, or avoid change? How do we shift our patterns and habits to better embrace this inevitable process?These are some of the core questions I have been exploring and practicing personally and professionally for my entire career.
Change, whether welcome or unwelcome, is an integral part of life. It can be the catalyst for personal growth and transformation, yet it often triggers intense emotions or patterns of behavior that can make change harder than it needs to be. Naturally this can be a challenging exercise when actively overwhelmed and the mind is flooded with emotion, so learning to regulate in the face of stress becomes of paramount importance before we can cognitively process how to break things down.

Talking to someone can provide valuable insights, encouragement, and a sense of connection during challenging transitions. Learning to trust yourself to manage change can also be attainable over time, but balancing with help from others is essential.

Be kind to yourself throughout the change process. Understand that setbacks and challenges are a natural part of any transformation. Treat yourself with the same compassion you would offer a friend facing a similar situation.
